New development is Florida friendly

A groundbreaking ceremony at a Clearwater condominium complex on May 16 marked a new development, but not the usual type. The project will transform a 30-year-old landscape into a Florida-Friendly Landscaping project. Over the last 18 months, Pinellas County Extension helped design the project for the Eagles Landing I and II Condominium Associations. Board members recognized the opportunity to turn the aging landscape into a sustainable, low-maintenance and water-conserving landscape. The attractive new landscaping is expected to save money on water and maintenance costs and to increase the homeowners’ property values. Through funding from the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the staff of Pinellas County Extension’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping program assisted with the project by providing educational sessions and professional guidance.
