Green Gas

Florida Gas Station Builds a Green Facility

The first gas station in Florida has received a prestigious “Green Business” certification in recognition of their green and sustainable efforts and practices. Bayshore Breeze Mobil is located at 2600 Bayshore Drive Dunedin on the main causeway to Honeymoon and Caladesi Islands. Once a greasy auto repair station with a tiny counter for beer, cigarettes, and lotto, the building has been transformed in a bright, family-friendly “key west” themed convenience store. The gas station remodel was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate that “evil” petroleum can co-exist with sustainable business.” They were not able to build the perfect LEED (Leadership in Engineering, Environment & Design) building due to financial constraints, but as many features as possible were incorporated. The Green Business League provided the right solution for a credible Green certification. Additionally, the Sustainability Plan includes future considerations to implement solar technologies, square foot gardening, rainwater harvesting, and a paperless office system, as examples. The building features included upgrades insulation I the roof and walls, thermo glass and tint in the doors and windows, low flow toilets and faucets, tankless gas water heater, super efficient, multi-zoned air conditioning system, ceiling fans, and light-colored, no VOC paints. The interior display case and ceiling lighting was upgraded to cool, energy efficient LED lighting, while the exterior lights in the fueling area canopy were replaced with state-of-the art, high efficiency induction lights. Eco-friendly landscaping and green spaces using reclaimed water were planted outside.
