Figuring Your Maximum Water Use is as Easy as 2 + 2

Is your water bill too high?

You can find out how much water you should be using very easily. It depends on how many people are in the home for indoor water use and how many square feet of lawn and landscape is being irrigated. The indoor use is fairly constant month after month, but outdoor water use should go down during the rainy season and during the winter when the grass is dormant from December through March.

For average indoor water use multiply the number of people in the home and allow 2,000 gallons per person.

For irrigation, find out home many square feet are irrigated and allow 2 gallons per square foot.

Let us suppose that there are 3 persons in the home and 3,000 square feet of irrigated lawn and landscape. In that case, maximum water use ought to be about 12,000 gallons. To figure out what the maximum water and sewer bill would be in that case,

Per Unit water Charges 5/8” & ¾” only Base Rate = $7.71
1,000 to 6,000 gallons $2.65 per 1,000 gallons (X 6) = $15.90
6,001 to 9,000 gallons $3.57 per 1,000 gallons (X3) = $10.71
9,001 to 15,000 gallons $4.51 per 1,000 gallons (X3) = $13.53
Sewer Charges(capped 10,000 gallons 5/8” & ¾” ) = $66.05
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
$113.90
